Why do I have visible pores?

Why visible pores appear?
Two main reasons why pores enlarge and appear visible on our face:
1) Excessive oil/sebum.
2) Decreased elasticity of skin due to aging.

To address large pores caused by excessive sebum :
The key is to know your skin type and test the products you are using.

If you have oily skin, generally an oil-free moisturiser or hydrating serum will be good enough for you.

If you use a new product and observe more visible pores, that means that the product might be too oily for you.
What can you do then? You can try applying a thinner layer of it and if that doesn’t work, mix a little bit into your serums and then apply it together. If even diluting it with serums doesn’t work, then it’s probably not suitable for your face. Don’t waste it though. You can use it on your hands and legs.

Use products that do not trigger increase sebum production. Through Jasmine’s R&D, she knows that some ingredients in skin care products (dependent on concentration), can trigger excessive sebum production. That’s why our whole range is especially suitable for acne-prone skin even though all products are suitable for all skin types.

To address large pores caused by aging :
Our skin starts to age at the cellular level when we hit 25. Skin loses elasticity and suppleness, hence pores appear enlarged. Regular exfoliation helps to increase our skin cell turnover. Acne-prone skin sheds dead skin cell slower, thus we tend to have clogged pores easily, which also leads to more visible pores. Mature skin also starts to shed dead skin cells slower, resulting in dull skin and enlarged pores. Glow Exfoliant helps to exfoliate and dissolves the clogs in your pores, leading to brighter complexion and smaller pores.

By adding anti-aging ingredients into your routine, you help to delay the skin aging process and the loss of elasticity. You can start adding products with anti-aging ingredients like our glow exfoliant, hydrating serum, blemish corrector and barrier booster moisturiser, into your routine. Sunscreen is a must as UVA rays increase skin aging.

Find your own sweet spot for your skin because all of us have different degree of skin hydration and dryness.

Here’s Jasmine personal experience :
When I tried to layer on Barrier Booster Moisturiser(BBM) after Hydrating Serum(HS), I realized that I woke up with large pores. I then knew it was still a tad too oily for me. Before I added BBM into my night routine, I always woke up with poreless balanced complexion. However, the anti-aging ingredients in BBM are super beneficial to our skin and I wanted to use them. It was also difficult to apply a thin layer evenly. Hence, I mixed BBM together with HS, Blemish Corrector and apply them together. Now, I wake up with poreless and bouncy complexion in the morning.

My skin belongs to the oily acne-prone type but if yours is more towards dry acne-prone skin, you could possibly layer on Barrier Booster Moisturiser or might even need Balancing Facial Oil.

The key is to test to see which product and how much to use will suit you best. I cannot emphasize more that it’s the concentration of the ingredients that matter.

This is my current skincare routine to maintain acne-free skin for your reference.
