Every moisturiser decision you’ve ever made — too greasy, too heavy, broke me out, not enough — comes down to one thing: the balance between water and oil in your skin.
Your skin needs both. Water keeps cells plump, resilient, and balanced. Oil seals that water in and protects the barrier. When these two are in the right ratio for your skin, everything else — texture, breakouts, sensitivity — tends to follow.
It overproduces oil to compensate — causing oilier skin, clogged pores, and breakouts. Oily skin is often dehydrated. Dehydrated skin can also flake and become reactive, even if it doesn’t feel dry.

If you have active acne, we recommend starting with the Clear Skin Starter Kit, which includes spot correctors and the half-face test. The Basics Bundle works well once acne is cleared, or as the daily base alongside a spot corrector you’ve already identified.
Tightness after Hydrating Serum means your skin needs an oil layer too — it’s not producing enough of its own oil to seal in the hydration. Add Barrier Booster Moisturiser on the areas that feel tight. Apply only where needed, not necessarily all over. In Singapore’s humidity many people need none or very little; in colder climates you’ll need more.
No. Soothing Cleansing Gel can be used as a standalone single cleanse. For a complete double cleanse, pair it with Calming Cleanser as the second step. If your skin is sensitive and can’t tolerate Calming Cleanser, Soothing Cleansing Gel alone is sufficient.
Yes. All three products are free from essential oils, synthetic fragrances, sulfates, parabens, and common allergens. Soothing Cleansing Gel is vegan. Hydrating Serum is oil-free, lightweight, and suitable for all skin types. The Mineral Sunscreen uses non-nano mineral filters with no chemical sunscreen ingredients. Fragrance and essential oils can cause sensitivity over time — keeping them out of daily products is especially important for young skin.
The Mineral Sunscreen uses 100% mineral filters with no chemical sunscreen ingredients — making it the more conservative choice during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some chemical sunscreen ingredients have been found in studies to be absorbed into the bloodstream. It might not be enough. If you experience tight feeling after applying Hydrating Serum, you have dry skin, rather than just dehydrated skin.
Dehydrated skin lacks water content, whereas dry skin is characterized by a lack of oil or lipids. However, as our skin cannot produce water, Hydrating Serum is a must for everybody while oil-based moisture is dependant on how dry one’s skin is.
To achieve your skin’s perfect oil-water balance, I would recommend following up the Hydrating Serum with our Barrier Booster Moisturiser. This moisturiser contains a blend of nourishing plant-based oils, ceramides and fatty acids that will help replenish the skin’s lipid content.

Yes, definitely Skinlycious sunscreen is safe for acne-prone skin. Jasmine spent over a year developing a mineral sunscreen that wouldn’t cause breakouts. While chemical sunscreens provide strong UVA and UVB protection, she avoided them due to potential skin absorption concerns after breakdown. The key challenge was finding the right balance between zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which took many attempts before she achieved the perfect formula. To date, we haven’t had any feedback of anybody breaking out with our sunscreen.
We call this the story of Irene. The first challenge was to find a surfactant that has good makeup removing power but yet doesn’t trigger increased sebum / oil production on our founder, Jasmine’s skin. After many rounds of trial, Jasmine finally found a suitable surfactant. She then added plant extracts for anti-inflammatory and hydration benefits. This is version 7 (v7) of the soothing cleansing gel. Jasmine sent out v7 to fellow acne fighters and Irene was one of them. Her skin barrier had been severely compromised after using harsh skincare. Within 3 days of using v7, Irene feedback that her skin cleared up and could stay matte much longer. We did a v8 with a slight reduction in extracts concentration and got everyone to test again. Every other tester, including Jasmine, was cool with v8 except Irene. Irene’s face started oiling up again and pimples returned. From Irene’s case, Jasmine learnt that acne could be caused by skin sensitivity and decided to launch v7 of Soothing Cleansing Gel in the hopes of helping others who has sensitive skin like Irene to solve their acne problem.
Hydrating Serum, essentially a Sodium Hyaluronate serum, is the only moisturizer that Jasmine, our founder, could use. After years of experimenting with various moisturizers without finding a suitable match, she discovered a Sodium Hyaluronate serum through an aesthetic doctor. Before establishing Skinlycious, for nearly 9 years, Jasmine purchased a comparable hydrating serum from her doctor at three times the current retail price offered by Skinlycious.
Jasmine enhanced the formula by incorporating PCA and amino acids to replicate our skin’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF). Skin problems, such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis, often coincide with lower levels of NMF. Additionally, as we age, the natural production of NMF diminishes. The inclusion of NMF and hydration in the serum not only ensures that your skin remains well-hydrated but also strengthens the skin barrier function.
Jasmine took more than a year to develop a full mineral sunscreen that didn’t break her out. The easy way out to achieve high UVA & UVB protection is with chemical screens but she didn’t want to use chemical screens as most chemical screens get broken down and might then be absorbed through the skin. The percentage tweak between Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide was all that matter. However, it took Jasmine so many versions of breaking out before finding the golden ratio. After finalising the formula that didn’t break Jasmine out, she sent out samples to her testers, who are existing customers. All but one feedback that they loved it and were surprised that they didn’t breakout with mineral sunscreen as they usually do. As we know, acne is multi-factorial. Jasmine decided to seek confirmation if the acne-prone skin tester truly broke out due to the sunscreen. In trials, we know of placebo effect. Jasmine then renamed it and sent the same formula to the tester, telling her it’s a different formula. After trying, tester came back to say all was good with the “new formula”. After Jasmine told the tester it’s the same formula, she was shocked but pleasantly surprised that she can finally use a mineral sunscreen. And so, we launched this sunscreen in peace knowing that all our testers did not breakout and you most probably wouldn’t as well.
