My 14 years of struggle with acne.
Hello there! My name is Jasmine Kang, Founder of Skinlycious.
For 14 agonizing years, acne has permeated my life and tormented me. I was in my late teens when I first got acne, I didn’t think too much of it. Little did I know that it would take such a hold of this part of my life.
Throughout my years of battle with acne, I suffered from all the different forms of acne. From uncountable cystic red acne, whiteheads, blackheads, pimples to bumpy skin on whole face, I had it all!
I tried everything! From natural therapies, expensive anti acne products from different brands, painful facials, endless doctors consultations, laser treatments. You name it, I’ve been there.
But nothing worked completely.
During this time, I hated looking at myself in the mirror, finding difficulty making eye contact when talking with other people and refusing to take photos. I call this period my “lost years”.
From Acne Sufferer to Acne Fighter
How my 8 years of R&D helped myself and fellow acne fighters
Developed the Clear Skin Potent Kit
In my years of struggling with acne, I realized I had amassed enough knowledge to seek my own acne solution and set out to meet my skin issues head on. Using my biomedical and pharmaceutical background and experience fighting acne, I developed Skinlycious’s Clear Skin Potent Kit, a truly effective 3-step routine that addresses the root causes of acne.
Concentrations & forms of ingredients matter
As I did more R&D, I discovered and affirmed that many ingredients with just a change in concentration and forms could lead to my skin increasing sebum/oil production and breaking out.
Every product in Skinlycious is first tested on my skin to make sure it doesn’t trigger increase sebum production nor break me out. Then, it’s sent to a small group of fellow acne fighters to test to affirm nobody breaks out. Formulations are refined with feedback from fellow acne fighters.
Developed vitamins-based spot corrector with fellow acne fighters
Together with fellow acne fighters who couldn’t use acids-based products, I developed an alternative vitamins-based spot corrector, Clarifying Serum. It’s a hit with tweens as well as pregnant mums due to its non-drying, non-peeling nature.
Pioneered the “Half-face” Test
We developed the half-face test to make it easier for acne fighters to identify whether an acids-based or a vitamins-based spot corrector or even both work best for them.
I am happy to say that it has helped many acne fighters identify their suitable spot corrector in the shortest possible time, finding their acne cure.
Discovered an alternative approach to fight acne
While developing our makeup remover, Soothing Cleansing Gel, I accidentally found a cure for Irene, a fellow acne fighter with extreme sensitive skin. With this discovery, I experienced first-hand how acne can be caused by skin sensitivity and the path to healing is really just to address the skin sensitivity and boost up the skin barrier. This became our Solution B for acne fighters who failed the half-face test.
