The Ingredients That Make It Work
Three Products, Each Addressing a Root Cause of Breakouts
• Cleanses thoroughly without triggering rebound oiliness or breakouts • 7 botanical extracts clinically shown to help reduce redness by 76.5% and itchiness by 37% in 4 weeks • Hydrates as it cleanses — skin feels moisturised and calm, not tight or stripped • Vegan and free from fragrance, essential oils, and common allergens — fragrance and essential oils can cause sensitivity over time, especially for children and sensitised skin
• Hydrates without clogging pores ; oil-free, weightless, can be used as your sole moisturiser • Replenishes water to balance sebum production ; well-hydrated skin is less oily over time • Replenishes NMF with PCA and 15 amino acids to rebuild skin barrier
Step 3: Barrier Booster Moisturiser
Complete Ingredient List — Barrier Booster Moisturiser
• Corrects acne-prone skin's lipid imbalance — normalising oil production and reducing congestion at the source • Reinforces the skin barrier with a skin-identical ceramide complex — less reactive, less sensitive, more resilient • Seals in hydration so the water layer stays in the skin, not on the surface • Soothes and calms tight, reactive skin while protecting against environmental damage
For Daily, massage over wet face and rinse thoroughly with water. Avoid direct contact with eyes. For makeup removal, massage over wet face and wipe off gel and grime with damp cotton pad. Repeat until cotton pad stays clean.
STEP 2: Mini Hydrating Serum
Dispense 1 to 2 pumps onto your palm. Using your fingertips, gently apply and evenly in a circular motion on whole face. Should your skin feels tight after using the oil-free Hydrating Serum, it’s a sign that your skin needs more moisture. In that case, apply Skinlycious Barrier Booster Moisturiser for an extra moisture boost.
STEP 3: Mini Barrier Booster Moisturiser
Apply 1 to 2 pumps evenly over face and neck after serum. Massage gently until fully absorbed. Use daily to lock in hydration and strengthen the skin barrier.

Solution B When Acne is Caused by Sensitive / Sensitised Skin
Our starter kits work for most people, but for those with sensitive skin and a weakened skin barrier, this approach can backfire. Acne-fighting ingredients, while helpful for many, can actually cause more irritation and even more breakouts in this group.
We noticed this pattern in about 10% of our customers. Many of them had fought acne for years, using product after product filled with acne-fighting ingredients. Instead of improving, their skin grew more fragile and reactive.
This was exactly what happened to Irene. After years of harsh products, her skin barrier was badly damaged. During R&D, she tried our Soothing Cleansing Gel, formulated with a high concentration of soothing extracts. To her surprise, her breakouts stopped, and the redness and itch began to fade. But when we reduced the soothing extracts, the breakouts came back.
That was Jasmine’s breakthrough moment as a founder: Acne isn’t always about excess oil or clogged pores — it can also be triggered by skin sensitivity.
We then launched the high concentration of soothing extracts version. Since then, Solution B has helped many others like Irene rebuild their skin barrier, calm their sensitivity, and finally enjoy clear, smooth skin again.
If skin feels tight after the Hydrating Serum, add Barrier Booster Moisturiser.
Still tight? Mix in or layer Balancing Facial Oil for deeper nourishment.
Solution B Success Story
The road to clearer skin doesn’t have a silver bullet, that’s why patience is key.
After 7 Days of Solution A
After 7 days of our half-face test, her chin (using Clarifying Serum) and nose (using Glow Exfoliant) both became more inflamed, with new acne appearing.
Day 0 of Solution B
We sent her the Soothing Cleansing Gel and asked her to stop both spot correctors. This photo shows her skin before switching to the Soothing Cleansing Gel and Hydrating Serum only.
Day 8 of Solution B
After one week of using only Soothing Cleansing Gel and Hydrating Serum, her skin calmed, acne began healing, and new breakouts dried up in 2–3 days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Good Questions, Straight Answers
Are these products suitable for sensitive skin?
Skinlycious products are well-suited for sensitive skin types. As a clean beauty brand, we avoid using potential irritants like essential oils, artificial fragrances, and synthetic colorants.
Instead, our formulas are carefully crafted with soothing, nourishing ingredients that support the skin’s natural barrier function. This includes plant-based extracts, ceramides, and antioxidants to calm and protect sensitive complexions.
While our products are formulated with sensitivity in mind, individual skin reactions can vary. We recommend doing a patch test before incorporating any new items into your routine.
Overall, our goal is to provide effective, gentle solutions for those with easily-irritated or compromised skin barriers.
What’s the difference between Calming Cleanser and Soothing Cleansing Gel? Can I use Calming Cleanser instead?
The key differences between Calming Cleanser and Soothing Cleansing Gel are:
Cleansing Ability: – Soothing Cleansing Gel is more effective at removing waterproof makeup and mineral-based sunscreens compared to Calming Cleanser.: – Soothing Cleansing Gel is the recommended first step in a double cleansing routine, as it can thoroughly remove stubborn impurities.: – Calming Cleanser may not be as effective at removing these types of makeup and sunscreens but is perfect as the day cleanser.
Skin Benefits: – Soothing Cleansing Gel is specially formulated for sensitive skin types. It contains a unique blend of 7 plant extracts that have been clinically proven to reduce redness and irritation. – Soothing Cleansing Gel is also more moisturizing than Calming Cleanser, thanks to the inclusion of ingredients like Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate and Saccaride Isomerate, which provide long-lasting hydration.
Double Cleansing: – For best results, we recommend a double cleansing routine in the evenings. Double cleansing is not needed in the day. Start with Soothing Cleansing Gel as the first cleanse, then follow up with Calming Cleanser as the second cleanse. This helps ensure your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prevents clogged pores, even if you didn’t wear makeup or sunscreen.
In summary, Soothing Cleansing Gel is the more robust and effective cleanser, especially for removing stubborn makeup and sunscreens, while also providing soothing and hydrating benefits for sensitive skin types. Calming Cleanser is a gentler day cleanser and second cleanser in the evening.
Therefore, if only one cleanser is to be used, we recommend the Soothing Cleansing Gel rather than Calming Cleanser.
My skin feels tight after Hydrating Serum. What does that mean?
Tightness after Hydrating Serum means your skin needs an oil layer too — it’s not producing enough of its own oil to seal in the hydration. Add Barrier Booster Moisturiser on the areas that feel tight. Apply only where needed, not necessarily all over. In Singapore’s humidity many people need none or very little; in colder climates you’ll need more.
What if I have dry skin? Will Hydrating Serum, an oil-free moisturiser, be enough?
It might not be enough. If you experience tight feeling after applying Hydrating Serum, you have dry skin, rather than just dehydrated skin.
Dehydrated skin lacks water content, whereas dry skin is characterized by a lack of oil or lipids. However, as our skin cannot produce water, Hydrating Serum is a must for everybody while oil-based moisture is dependant on how dry one’s skin is.
To achieve your skin’s perfect oil-water balance, I would recommend following up the Hydrating Serum with our Barrier Booster Moisturiser. This moisturiser contains a blend of nourishing plant-based oils, ceramides and fatty acids that will help replenish the skin’s lipid content.
You can either layer on the moisturiser or if it’s too oily, you can mix it with Hydrating Serum. This video guides you on how to customise your moisturiser to get the perfect water and oil balance for balanced healthy skin.
How was Soothing Cleansing Gel developed?
We call this the story of Irene. The first challenge was to find a surfactant that has good makeup removing power but yet doesn’t trigger increased sebum / oil production on our founder, Jasmine’s skin. After many rounds of trial, Jasmine finally found a suitable surfactant. She then added plant extracts for anti-inflammatory and hydration benefits. This is version 7 (v7) of the soothing cleansing gel. Jasmine sent out v7 to fellow acne fighters and Irene was one of them. Her skin barrier had been severely compromised after using harsh skincare. Within 3 days of using v7, Irene feedback that her skin cleared up and could stay matte much longer. We did a v8 with a slight reduction in extracts concentration and got everyone to test again. Every other tester, including Jasmine, was cool with v8 except Irene. Irene’s face started oiling up again and pimples returned. From Irene’s case, Jasmine learnt that acne could be caused by skin sensitivity and decided to launch v7 of Soothing Cleansing Gel in the hopes of helping others who has sensitive skin like Irene to solve their acne problem.
How was Hydrating Serum developed?
Hydrating Serum, essentially a Sodium Hyaluronate serum, is the only moisturizer that Jasmine, our founder, could use. After years of experimenting with various moisturizers without finding a suitable match, she discovered a Sodium Hyaluronate serum through an aesthetic doctor. Before establishing Skinlycious, for nearly 9 years, Jasmine purchased a comparable hydrating serum from her doctor at three times the current retail price offered by Skinlycious.
Jasmine enhanced the formula by incorporating PCA and amino acids to replicate our skin’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF). Skin problems, such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis, often coincide with lower levels of NMF. Additionally, as we age, the natural production of NMF diminishes. The inclusion of NMF and hydration in the serum not only ensures that your skin remains well-hydrated but also strengthens the skin barrier function.
How was Barrier Booster Moisturiser developed?
To understand natural ingredients better, Jasmine specially took a diploma in organic skincare formulation. After researching on the types of oil that is beneficial for acne-prone skin, Jasmine tested and developed a proprietary oil blend (Skinlycious Balancing Facial Oil) that didn’t break her out. She then used this oil to formulate Barrier Booster Moisturiser.
After many iterations, Jasmine finalised on a formula that didn’t break her out. She then sent out 3 samples of the same formula, with difference only in the percentage of Balancing Facial Oil, to a small group of initial customers who feedback that they needed a moisturiser on top of hydrating serum. It was a blinded test. When the results came back, there was no winner among the 3 samples.
Jasmine then decided to choose the one with a lower oil percentage, so that herself (oily/normal breakout-prone skin) could use this moisturiser. And launch a pure blend of our proprietary oil as Skinlycious Balancing Facial Oil, so that the dry breakout-prone skin can customise the amount of oil they need.
