Real Skin Transformations

The Ingredients That Make It Work

Key Ingredients:

Plant-Based Surfactant System (No Sulfates)
The surfactant is the most critical decision in any cleanser — and the hardest to get right for acne-prone skin. Most surfactants trigger increased sebum production shortly after cleansing, which worsens oiliness and sets up the conditions for breakouts. After many rounds of trials on her own skin, Jasmine identified a plant-derived surfactant blend with no sulfates that removes makeup and sunscreen effectively without stripping the skin or triggering oil rebound.

Alongside the surfactants, Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters (olive-derived moisturising agent) — an olive-derived moisturising agent — protects the skin from irritation and seals in moisture as it cleanses, leaving the barrier intact.

Saccharide Isomerate
A modified form of hyaluronic acid that is 17x more moisturising than standard Sodium Hyaluronate. Positively charged, it binds directly to the skin’s surface for deeper, longer-lasting hydration. Skin doesn’t just feel clean after rinsing — it feels genuinely hydrated and protected.

Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate
Mimics the skin’s own Natural Moisturising Factor, binding directly to skin proteins for lasting hydration that doesn’t wash off. Clinically shown to relieve sensitivity and calm reactive skin.

Unique Blend of 7 Natural Plant Extracts
Traditionally used in Asia for their soothing properties, this original botanical blend has been clinically shown to:

• Reduce Redness by 76.5%
• Reduce Itchiness by 37%
• Improve Skin Barrier by ~41%

in 4 weeks.

Why concentration matters: Irene’s case showed that even a small reduction in extract concentration — v8 vs v7 — made her skin oil up and break out again. This botanical complex is dosed at the concentration that worked for the most sensitised skin in testing — not the minimum that could still appear on a label.

Why These Specific Ingredients?

Soothing Cleansing Gel has two origin stories. Both start with a problem no existing product could solve.

Part 1: Jasmine’s search for a makeup remover that didn’t break her out. Micellar water left her skin oily again within hours of cleansing. Cleansing oils caused breakouts. Milk cleansers didn’t feel clean. Jasmine couldn’t find a single makeup remover on the market that thoroughly removed her sunscreen and makeup without triggering rebound oiliness or pimples on her sensitive acne-prone skin. The only solution was to formulate her own. After many rounds of trials, she identified a plant-based surfactant system that did both: removed everything properly and left skin balanced. She then layered in botanical extracts for soothing and hydration benefits. That was Version 7 (v7).

Part 2: The story of Irene. Jasmine sent v7 to fellow acne fighters for testing. Irene was one of them — her skin barrier had been severely compromised by harsh skincare products. Within 3 days of using v7, her skin cleared up and she could stay matte much longer.  Jasmine then developed v8, which was identical to v7 in every way except for a slight reduction in botanical extract concentration — a small adjustment she wanted to test. Every other tester, including Jasmine, was fine with v8. Irene’s face started oiling up again and her pimples returned.  The only variable that changed was concentration. From this, Jasmine understood something important: acne can be caused by skin sensitivity, not just clogged pores — and for sensitised skin, the concentration of soothing actives is not optional. Soothing Cleansing Gel was launched at v7.

The original formula used turmeric and French pine bark extract. When those were discontinued by the supplier, Jasmine replaced them with a new blend of soothing botanical extracts with proven clinical efficacy — matching or improving the soothing and skin-calming benefits, at optimal concentrations.

How to use

Double Cleanse — With Makeup or Sunscreen

Step 1: Massage Soothing Cleansing Gel over a wet face and wipe off with a damp cotton pad. Repeat until the pad stays clean.
Step 2: Follow with Calming Cleanser to ensure the skin is thoroughly clean before applying serums and moisturiser. Soothing Cleansing Gel lifts surface makeup and sunscreen; Calming Cleanser resets the skin’s balance.

Standalone Cleanse — Without Makeup or Sunscreen

Apply to a wet face, massage gently, and rinse off. Suitable for daily use, morning and night. Suitable for all skin types — including those who can’t tolerate Calming Cleanser due to skin sensitivity.

Skinlycious Solution B — For Barrier-Compromised Skin

If skin is reactive and breaking out from products that shouldn’t cause breakouts, use Soothing Cleansing Gel as your sole cleanser while your barrier stabilises. Pair with Hydrating Serum + Barrier Booster Moisturiser and hold off on acne-fighting active ingredients until skin feels calmer.

Why Most Makeup Removers Make Breakout-Prone Skin Worse

Most makeup removers put you in an impossible position. Micellar water lifts surface makeup — but leaves an invisible residue that can make skin oily again within hours. That’s exactly what happened to Jasmine: her skin would be oily again within hours of using micellar water, regardless of how thoroughly she thought she’d cleansed. Cleansing oils break down makeup effectively — but can leave a pore-clogging film that triggers breakouts on acne-prone skin. Jasmine’s skin broke out consistently with cleansing oils. Milk cleansers feel luxurious — but often don’t feel fully clean, leaving a residue that sits on the skin all night.

Soothing Cleansing Gel was formulated to solve exactly that. A gel cleanser with plant-based surfactants that thoroughly removes makeup and mineral sunscreen — without leaving residue, without triggering rebound oiliness, and without causing the breakouts that drove Jasmine to formulate her own solution after years of failing to find one on the market.

What Makes This Cleanser Different

3 Reasons This Cleanser Actually Works

A Surfactant System That Removes Everything — Without the Rebound

Jasmine tried every makeup remover category. Micellar water left her skin oily again within hours. Cleansing oils caused breakouts. Milk cleansers didn’t feel clean. Each one either failed to remove mineral sunscreen properly or triggered the oil and breakout cycle she was trying to stop.

The core challenge was the surfactant: it had to remove makeup and sunscreen effectively, but not trigger the rebound sebum production that most cleansing agents caused on her sensitive acne-prone skin. After many rounds of testing different surfactant systems on her own face, she identified a plant-based blend with no sulfates that did both. The result: a cleanser that removes what needs to go — and leaves skin clean, balanced, and not primed to overproduce oil.

7 Botanical Extracts at the Concentration That Cleared Irene’s Skin

Botanical extract lists look impressive on labels. What most brands don’t tell you is that concentration determines whether they actually do anything — and Irene’s story is the most direct proof we have of why this matters.

Irene’s skin barrier had been severely compromised by harsh skincare. When she tested v7 of Soothing Cleansing Gel — Jasmine’s seventh formulation attempt, with the full botanical complex at its original concentration — her skin cleared up within 3 days and stayed matte longer than it ever had. Jasmine then developed v8: identical in every ingredient, but with a slightly reduced extract concentration. Every other tester was fine with it. Irene’s skin immediately oiled up again and her pimples returned. The only variable that changed was concentration.

Soothing Cleansing Gel launched at v7 — dosed at the concentration that worked for the most sensitised skin in the test group. The same botanical complex of Centella, Chamomile, Skullcap, Licorice, Green Tea, Japanese Knotweed, and Rosemary has since been clinically shown to help reduce redness by 76.5%, itchiness by 37%, and improve the skin barrier by ~41% in 4 weeks. Irene’s case became the foundation of Skinlycious’s Solution B — a gentler pathway that has since helped many with sensitive and sensitised skin find their way to clear skin.

It Hydrates While It Cleanses — Skin Feels Calm, Not Stripped

Most cleansers remove things. Soothing Cleansing Gel removes what needs removing while actively depositing hydration as it works.

Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters is an olive-derived moisturising agent that protects the skin from irritation and seals in moisture during cleansing — so the barrier isn’t left vulnerable between steps. Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate (17x more moisturising than standard HA) binds directly to the skin’s surface and delivers lasting hydration that persists after rinsing. Saccharide Isomerate mimics the skin’s own NMF and binds to skin proteins for lasting relief of tight, reactive skin.

The result: skin that feels genuinely hydrated and soothed after cleansing — not just temporarily comfortable before it tightens up again. Especially important for sensitised skin where every step that reduces irritation gives the barrier more capacity to recover.

Frequently Asked Questions

Good Questions, Straight Answers

What’s the difference between Soothing Cleansing Gel and Calming Cleanser?

Calming Cleanser is the daily cleanser: lightweight, pH-balancing, and formulated primarily for oily and acne-prone skin. Soothing Cleansing Gel is designed for two uses: the first step in a double cleanse to remove makeup and sunscreen, and as the primary cleanser for sensitised or barrier-compromised skin. If you wear makeup or sunscreen, use Soothing Cleansing Gel first, then Calming Cleanser. If your skin is sensitised, Soothing Cleansing Gel alone is the gentler option until your barrier stabilises. Also note: Calming Cleanser contains Hydrolyzed Whey Protein (dairy-derived). Soothing Cleansing Gel is the vegan alternative.

Is Soothing Cleansing Gel suitable for all skin types?

Yes. Soothing Cleansing Gel is suitable for all skin types — oily, dry, combination, sensitive, and sensitised. It was specifically developed for sensitive and sensitised skin, but its gentle surfactant system and hydrating actives make it appropriate for anyone who wears makeup or sunscreen, or anyone who wants a soothing first cleanse. It is also suitable for teens and tweens.

Do I need to double cleanse, or can I just use one cleanser?

If you wear makeup or mineral sunscreen: double cleanse — Soothing Cleansing Gel first, then Calming Cleanser. If you don’t wear makeup or sunscreen: one cleanser is enough. Soothing Cleansing Gel alone as a standalone cleanse is fine, especially for sensitised skin.

My skin has been wrecked by harsh products. Where do I start?

Start with Solution B: Soothing Cleansing Gel + Hydrating Serum + Barrier Booster Moisturiser (only when skin is tight after Hydrating Serum). No active ingredients until your skin stabilises. This is the gentlest entry point into the Skinlycious routine. Once your skin feels less reactive, active correctors like Glow Exfoliant or Clarifying Serum can be introduced gradually. More at skinlycious.com/clear-skin-solutions/#solution-b.

What is v7 and why does it matter?

v7 refers to the seventh formulation of Soothing Cleansing Gel — the version Jasmine sent to testers including Irene. v8 was identical in every ingredient except a slight reduction in botanical extract concentration. Irene’s skin broke out on v8 but cleared on v7. Soothing Cleansing Gel is v7 — the concentration that worked for the most sensitive skin in testing.

Can it remove waterproof makeup?

Yes — the gel surfactant system is formulated to dissolve and lift makeup including mineral sunscreen. Apply to wet skin, massage in, then wipe with a damp cotton pad. Repeat until the pad comes away clean. Follow with Calming Cleanser for a thorough double cleanse.

Is this vegan?

Yes. Soothing Cleansing Gel is 100% vegan and free from essential oils, synthetic fragrances, colorants, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and formaldehydes. It is the vegan alternative to Calming Cleanser, which contains Hydrolyzed Whey Protein (dairy-derived).

Where are the products made?

All Skinlycious products are made in a certified GMP facility in Singapore, rigorously lab-tested, and notified with the US FDA, HSA, and NPRA.

How fast will I receive my Soothing Cleansing Gel?

Just give us 1-2 working days to prepare your order once you have placed your order and another 2-4 working days for the courier to deliver.

Do note that we don’t work on weekends and on Singapore’s Public Holidays.

How was Soothing Cleansing Gel developed?

We call this the story of Irene. The first challenge was to find a surfactant that has good makeup removing power but yet doesn’t trigger increased sebum / oil production on our founder, Jasmine’s skin. After many rounds of trial, Jasmine finally found a suitable surfactant. She then added plant extracts for anti-inflammatory and hydration benefits. This is version 7 (v7) of the soothing cleansing gel. Jasmine sent out v7 to fellow acne fighters and Irene was one of them. Her skin barrier had been severely compromised after using harsh skincare. Within 3 days of using v7, Irene feedback that her skin cleared up and could stay matte much longer. We did a v8 with a slight reduction in extracts concentration and got everyone to test again. Every other tester, including Jasmine, was cool with v8 except Irene. Irene’s face started oiling up again and pimples returned. From Irene’s case, Jasmine learnt that acne could be caused by skin sensitivity and decided to launch v7 of Soothing Cleansing Gel in the hopes of helping others who has sensitive skin like Irene to solve their acne problem.
