Real Skin Transformations

The Ingredients That Make It Work

Key Ingredients:

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Stable Vitamin C)
A stable, skin-friendly form of Vitamin C that targets the bacteria causing breakouts while simultaneously fading post-acne marks and pigmentations. It also stimulates collagen production, brightens skin, evens skin tone, and acts as a powerful antioxidant that shields skin from daily environmental damage — making it one of the most versatile actives in skincare.

We specifically use Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate — not L-Ascorbic Acid (the most common form of Vitamin C) — because it is stable, low-irritation, and suitable for sensitive skin. L-Ascorbic Acid is highly unstable and can cause sensitivity; Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate delivers the same benefits reliably and gently albeit slower.

Niacinamide
A multi-tasking active that visibly reduces pores, controls excess sebum, and calms redness. It works with Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate to further even skin tone and brighten post-acne marks, while strengthening the skin barrier and helping reduce skin yellowing that comes with age. Well-tolerated by even the most sensitive skin.

Why These Specific Ingredients?

Clarifying Serum exists because of a real gap: what do people who need a spot corrector do when their skin can't tolerate acids? Some skin types experience peeling or excessive dryness with acid-based spot correctors. For them, there was no effective alternative — until this.

The answer is a vitamin-based formula that addresses the same problems through a different mechanism. Vitamin C targets bacteria and fades marks. Niacinamide calms redness and evens tone. Together, they also protect and strengthen the skin barrier — so every use is both corrective and supportive. No acids. No peeling. No rest days.

The formula was tested with real customers with acid-sensitive skin through multiple rounds of refinement — including Junqi, a long-time Skinlycious customer who couldn't use Glow Exfoliant, and whose feedback directly shaped the final formula. Many others with similar skin have since found their answer in Clarifying Serum.

Complete Ingredient List

Water, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Niacinamide, Xanthan Gum, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol.

Formulated without: Essential Oils, Synthetic Fragrances/Colorants, Parabens, Phthalates, Sulfates, Formaldehydes.

How to use

Three Ways to Use Clarifying Serum

Use 1: Spot Corrector for Active Pimples

After cleansing, apply a small amount directly onto active blemishes using a clean fingertip. Use twice daily — morning and night. No rinse needed.

Use 2: Fade Post-Acne Marks and Pigmentation

Apply over areas with post-acne marks or pigmentations after cleansing. Consistent twice-daily use is key — pigmentations lighten gradually over weeks.

Post-acne marks (Post-inflammatory pigmentations - PIH) are a normal part of the skin's healing process. The skin produces pigment as it recovers from a blemish — it fades naturally over time, but Clarifying Serum speeds this up significantly. As we age, skin cell turnover slows, so pigmentations can take longer to fade — which is where consistent use makes the most difference.

Use 3: Brighten and Support

Apply a thin layer over the whole face twice daily as part of your routine. Used consistently, the Vitamin C and Niacinamide protect against environmental damage, stimulate collagen, brighten overall tone, and reduce skin yellowing. Think of it as your daily skin health investment on top of your cleanse and hydrate routine.

Why Most Spot Correctors Only Solve Part of the Problem

Most spot correctors are designed to do one thing: flatten the blemish. But the blemish is rarely the whole problem. The post-acne mark that stays behind — the red or brown pigmentation known as PIH — can linger for weeks or months after the skin has healed.

PIH is a normal part of how skin heals. When the skin recovers from a blemish, it produces pigment at the site — this is what causes the darkening.
Skin cell turnover gradually fades it, but as we age, this turnover slows — making pigmentations linger longer than they used to.

Pimple patches address only the surface of the blemish, and risk pulling off the healing skin layer on removal — which can slow the process down rather than speed it up.

Clarifying Serum was designed to go further: correct the blemish, fade the mark, and protect and strengthen the skin doing it. Three jobs. One formula. No peeling.

What Makes Clarifying Serum Different

3 Reasons This Serum Works

Visibly Flattens Pimples — No Peeling, No Dryness

Different skin types need different spot correctors. Glow Exfoliant uses BHA and AHA — effective for exfoliation and deep pore-clearing, ideal for skin that responds well to acids. Clarifying Serum takes a different route for skin that doesn’t.

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate — a stable form of Vitamin C — targets the bacteria in the pore causing the blemish from within, without dissolving or stripping the surrounding skin. Niacinamide calms redness and visibly reduces the pimple’s appearance simultaneously. The result is a spot corrector you can apply twice daily without any peeling, tightness, or over-drying.

Fades Post-Acne Marks and Pigmentations

The mark a pimple leaves behind is often more persistent than the pimple itself. PIH is the skin’s natural pigment response to a healing blemish — normal, but slow to fade, especially as skin cell turnover decreases with age.

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate inhibits melanin production at the site of the mark, visibly lightening PIH and post-acne discolouration with consistent use. Niacinamide works alongside it to further reduce hyperpigmentation and even skin tone.

The proof came from an unexpected place. By the time Jasmine was formulating this product, her acne had cleared — so she couldn’t test it on her face. But she had a scratch on her leg that had left a long, visible PIH mark — one her husband had noticed and commented on. After three weeks, it still hadn’t faded. She applied Clarifying Serum, and within just 3 days, the mark had lightened so significantly it was barely visible. That was the moment she knew the formula was working.

A Multitasker That Protects and Strengthens Skin — Not Just Corrects

Most spot correctors are single-purpose. Clarifying Serum does considerably more. Vitamin C is one of the most well-researched antioxidants in skincare — it neutralises free radicals from UV exposure and environmental stress that accelerate skin ageing. Used consistently, it stimulates collagen production, firms the skin, brightens overall tone, and helps counteract the yellowing that comes with age. Niacinamide adds barrier-strengthening and sebum-balancing on top.

This is why Clarifying Serum fits within the Skinlycious philosophy: every product should support the skin barrier, not just address the symptom. You’re not just correcting a pimple — you’re investing in the long-term health of your skin with every application.

The formula was tested with real customers who couldn’t use acid-based alternatives — including Junqi, who had struggled with acne for years, tried Accutane, and found his acne return after stopping medication. When Glow Exfoliant didn’t work for his skin, this formula was developed with his feedback through multiple rounds of testing. Many other customers with acid-sensitive skin have since found the same solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Good Questions, Straight Answers

How is Clarifying Serum different from Glow Exfoliant?

They’re built for different skin types. Glow Exfoliant uses BHA + AHA — ideal for deep pore-clearing and exfoliation, and its AHA component also helps fade post-acne marks by accelerating skin cell turnover. Clarifying Serum uses Vitamin C + Niacinamide — a vitamin-based approach suited for skin that prefers to avoid acid-based spot correctors. Both are gentle by Skinlycious standards. They address the same concern through different mechanisms, for different skin types.

How quickly will I see results on pimples?

Many users see visible improvement in blemishes within 1–3 days of twice-daily use. Results vary by blemish type — whiteheads and tiny bumps respond faster, deeper blemishes take longer.

How long before post-acne marks fade?

Most users see visible lightening of marks within 2–4 weeks of consistent twice-daily use. PIH from older or deeper blemishes may take longer. Consistency matters more than frequency.

Can I use this on my body as well as my face?

Yes. Clarifying Serum can be used on breakouts and PIH on the body — chest, back, or anywhere marks or blemishes appear. Apply directly to the area twice daily.

Can kids and teens use this?

Yes. Clarifying Serum is free from acids, sulfates, fragrances, and essential oils — well-suited for young or sensitive skin. A good option for teens who find acid-based spot correctors too drying.

Why is Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate used instead of regular Vitamin C?

Regular Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) is highly unstable — it oxidises quickly and can cause sensitivity in some skin types. Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a stable form that delivers the same brightening and antioxidant benefits reliably and gently, making it suitable for daily use on sensitive and breakout-prone skin.

Is Clarifying Serum safe for pregnant ladies?

Yes, Clarifying Serum is generally safe to use during pregnancy. Most of our products are safe, except for the Glow Exfoliant, which contains salicylic acid and is not recommended during pregnancy. Its main ingredients — Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (a stable form of Vitamin C) and Niacinamide — are gentle, non-irritating actives that are commonly recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

However, as everyone’s skin and health conditions differ during pregnancy, we always suggest checking with your doctor if you’re unsure or using any prescribed medications.

How fast will I receive my Clarifying Serum?

Just give us 1-2 working days to prepare your order once you have placed your order and another 1-2 working days for the courier to deliver.

Do note that we don’t work on weekends and on Singapore’s Public Holidays.

How’s the texture of Clarifying Serum?

Clarifying Serum absorbs quickly and goes clear. It’s not sticky too!

What is stabilized Vitamin C?

Sodium ascorbyl phosphate is a derivative, more stable form of Vitamin C, hence it oxidises slower, turning yellow slower, giving you the most out of its benefits. It’s more gentle than the potent form L-ascorbic acid, hence it’s more suitable for sensitive skin.

How do I store Clarifying Serum?

Clarifying Serum has to be kept away from sun and heat too to slow down its oxidising rate, i.e. turning yellow. Make sure that the cap is always tightened too! Do not store in the refrigerator.

Why does Clarifying Serum turn yellow?

That’s because the Vitamin C in Clarifying Serum is oxidising. Don’t be alarmed. Oxidisation is a natural process of Vitamin C. The vitamin C, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, is already a more stable form that oxidises much slower than L-ascorbic acid.

Usually, Clarifying Serum will start turn to light yellow 7 to 9 months from manufacturing date. It will decrease its efficacy a little, but we have put in a high dose of Vitamin C. It does not cause skin irritation. Remember to always tighten the cap.

However, if the color has turned to a color like brown, then it shouldn’t be used anymore.

Can I use Clarifying Serum with retinol?

It’s best not to use Clarifying Serum with retinol. If you would like to use retinol, you can use that in the night and Vit C (Clarifying Serum) in the morning.

However, if you are having acne issues, we encourage you to stick to our recommended routine first. Start with our starter kit, do our signature half-face test and identify which actives/routine work best for you.

How was Clarifying Serum developed?

Clarifying Serum was developed with fellow Acne Fighters, who couldn’t use acids-based Glow Exfoliant. One of the fellow Acne fighters, Jun Qi, shared his success story here. We went through many variations before finalising on this current formula and it has since benefited many others who couldn’t use acids-based spot treatment.

That’s also how we developed our signature half-face test for first-time users to identify which spot corrector suits them.

Where are the products made?

All Skinlycious products are made in a certified GMP facility in Singapore, lab-tested rigorously, and notified with the US FDA, HSA, and NPRA.
