Does Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) cause acne?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) - Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that causes enlarged ovaries. Small cysts may form on the outer edges.

In addition to affecting a woman’s fertility, PCOS can cause a number of hormone-induced side effects. This includes acne.

Women who have PCOS often have acne. They usually have other signs of a hormone problem, such as hair loss on their head, noticeable hair growth on their face, or an area of skin that starts to darken and sometimes thicken. PCOS can also cause irregular periods, sleep apnea, diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems.

Women who suspect they may have PCOS should see their dermatologist or primary care doctor immediately. If you’re diagnosed with PCOS, you should also be under the care of a doctor who can treat the cysts in your ovaries. You may also need to see other doctors to get treatment for conditions like diabetes or heart disease.

A dermatologist can treat your acne, hair loss, and noticeable hair growth. The darkening skin usually goes away when the disease causing it is treated. The medical name for this darkening skin is acanthosis nigricans.

Acne caused by PCOS is not only triggered by clogged pores.

They can still use Skinlycious’ products to alleviate the symptoms, but they would still need to take other medications that the doctor had prescribed. Our products can only fight external causes, not the ones internally. There had been customers that tried Skinlycious while treating PCOS and it helped them control acne better.
